According to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, you are responsible for fire safety in the workplace if you are an employer, the owner, the landlord, an occupier or anyone else with control of the premises, for example, a facilities manager or risk assessor. You are known as the ‘responsible person’ and you must carry out a risk assessment of the premises and review it regularly, tell staff about the identified risks, and be accountable for fire safety measures, planning for emergencies and providing fire safety training.
Getting to grips with your responsibilities for fire safety will bring you peace of mind and help you better manage your risks and costs.
