Fire
Extinguisher
Training

Fire extinguishers are often the first line of defence in the event of a fire. We believe everyone should be confident and competent to extinguish a fire, and this only comes with experience. If your fire awareness training from another provider did not include hands-on practice with fire extinguishers, this course is for you.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 mandates that fire extinguishers are required in all buildings. The most common types of fire extinguisher are water, CO2, foam, dry powder and wet chemical extinguishers. The different types are effective against certain classes of fire, for example, water fire extinguishers are good for tackling fires involving burning paper, wood and soft furnishings (Class A fires). There is no one extinguisher type which works on all classes of fire. The fire risks to your premises identified in your fire risk assessment determine which types of fire extinguisher you require. You will also need to make sure that you have the right size and weight of fire extinguisher.

Fire extinguishers should be properly installed by a professional, and tested, maintained and serviced annually. This will prolong the life of the equipment, keeping your business safe from fire and saving you money.

Who is it for?

Our Fire Extinguisher Training is for new members of staff, the existing team in need of a fire training update, people who have done the fire awareness theory but need the practice of using fire extinguishers or those who have completed an e-learning fire awareness course.

Course Content

Benfield Fire Safety provides Fire Extinguisher Training that ensures your staff know how to use extinguishers when the situation arises to either control or put out a small fire. During this course, people will:

  • Learn to select the right fire extinguisher for different types of fire
  • Judge whether it is safe for them to enter a partially smoke-filled room
  • Use a fire extinguisher
  • Extinguish a real or simulated fire
  • Get real-time feedback to improve their performance

Our Fire Extinguisher Training can be delivered inside your premises using our digital LED equipment in a simulated fire exercise or outdoors using real fire extinguishers on a controlled fire.

Inside your premises

  • A fire emergency simulation within your premises
  • Using our state-of-the-art digital fire equipment, we create a ‘fire emergency’ for your staff to tackle

Working in teams of two, your people feel the adrenaline of entering partially a smoke-filled room, discovering and putting out a fire. This memorable experience raises their awareness of fire safety and builds their confidence and competence. This version of the course can be run in all weather conditions as the ‘fire’ is set where it might really occur – inside your building.

Live fire outdoors

Our gas rig enables your people to feel the heat of a real flame in a fully controlled and safe environment. Using this traditional fire safety training equipment, we can replicate a computer monitor or TV fire, a waste bin fire or a chip pan fire. Your employees tackle the blaze using a range of real fire extinguishers and a fire blanket, building their confidence and skills. This version of the course is run outside, so is best suited to dry weather conditions.
