St John's Winchester

Overview of St John's Winchester

St John’s Winchester is a charity that has been supporting the community since the 12th Century. It is now focused on supporting older people to help enable them to live full and rich lives through quality care and housing.

The charity has a number of dedicated properties across Winchester. The Almshouses is a growing portfolio of mainly self-contained one-bedroom flats providing supported independent living. The Moorside Dementia Home is a purpose-built specialist dementia care nursing home, which also provides a café and support such as daycare for the wider community.

Our Approach And Solution

Benfield Fire Safety has undertaken fire risk assessments for St John’s Winchester on various properties including a care home and tenanted accommodation for single or multiple occupants; and some of these buildings are Listed.

We provide evacuation chair training and fire warden training for key members of staff. The fire safety awareness training is carried out for a wide range of staff including office, care home, maintenance and senior managers. Benfield Fire Safety also provides facilitated evacuation drills to test staff against the benchmarks in their Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP).

The fire safety services provided have helped staff improve their knowledge and confidence in dealing with false alarms and also averting fires by tackling risks.

In their fire risk assessments, we highlighted areas of improvement and suggested acceptable solutions and timeframes to address all shortfalls.

Testimonial

Very approachable and professional

“Jason and his team at Benfield Fire Safety provide a range of annual services. Our staff are engaged with the fire safety training and the content is updated and made relevant to our needs. Their learning and our fire safety plans are tested via a facilitated fire evacuation drill and Jason provides a debrief afterwards to evaluate the effectiveness of our performance.

“The fire risk assessments are clearly presented and easy to follow. There is a timeline for any works to be completed, which is useful.

“Jason is very approachable and professional; he’ll sort out any queries and problems. With regard to training and other services, he’s very accommodating and flexible with dates to fit in around our needs. I highly recommend Benfield Fire Safety.”
