Do I need a Fire Risk Assessment?
Yes. A Fire Risk Assessment is a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. The responsibility for ensuring one is carried out sits with the ‘Responsible Person’, which for business premises is typically the Director, Employer, or Owner.
Can I carry out a Fire Risk Assessment myself?
It is possible to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment yourself if you have the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience. You must be fully competent in fire safety and up to date with current legislation, which can vary depending on the type and use of the building. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that a qualified Fire Risk Assessor is engaged, particularly for larger or more complex premises, to ensure the assessment is thorough, compliant, and appropriate to your building and business operations.
How much does a Fire Door Inspection cost?
Fire Door Inspection costs vary depending on the number of doors, their condition and the layout of your building. We provide clear, structured pricing for most small to medium commercial premises. For an accurate quote, visit our Fire Door Inspections page or contact our team directly.
What types of businesses do you work with?
We work with a wide range of businesses and organisations across multiple sectors. These include manufacturing sites, offices, warehouses, schools, colleges, local authorities, healthcare providers, care organisations, charities, retail premises and commercial workplaces. Our services are tailored to the specific risks, layouts and operational needs of each environment so every Fire Risk Assessment, Fire Door Inspection and training session is relevant and practical.
How do I know if my business needs a Fire Door Inspection?
Fire doors form a critical part of passive fire protection and must be inspected regularly to ensure they perform correctly in an emergency. Businesses should arrange a Fire Door Inspection if:
- The doors are older or showing signs of wear
- The premises have recently been refurbished or reconfigured
- Staff have reported issues with closing, gaps or hardware
- Annual checks are due as part of your building compliance schedule
If you’re unsure, our inspectors can advise you based on your premises and regulatory requirements
Which areas do you serve in Hampshire?
Benfield Fire Safety serves Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh, Winchester, Southampton, Romsey, Fareham, Andover, Portsmouth and surrounding Hampshire locations. If your business is near any of these areas, our team can support you.
What is included in your Fire Marshal (Fire Warden) Training?
Our Fire Marshal Training (Fire Warden) covers the essential duties and responsibilities required of designated fire safety personnel in the workplace. The course includes the role of a Fire Marshal, fire prevention measures, evacuation procedures, how to identify hazards, how to support safe decision making during an emergency and how to assist with effective fire safety management. We also offer sector specific versions such as Fire Marshal Training for Carers, which includes additional content tailored to care environments. You can learn more and view all available courses on our Fire Safety Training Courses page.
Can Fire Marshal (Fire Warden) training be completed online?
Yes, Fire Marshal (Fire Warden) training can be completed online; however, online training is theory-only. To ensure staff are fully prepared for real-life situations, it is strongly recommended that online learning is supplemented with practical Fire Extinguisher Training delivered in person at your workplace, allowing knowledge to be applied safely and effectively.
How long is Fire Marshal (Fire Warden) training valid for?
Fire Marshal (Fire Warden) training provided by Befnield Fire Safety is valid for three years. Refresher training should be completed after this period, or sooner if there are significant changes to the workplace, fire risks, or Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP).
Is online fire safety training as effective as in-person training?
Online fire safety training can be highly effective when it is well structured and aligned with UK fire safety legislation. It provides clear theoretical knowledge, is easy for staff to complete at their own pace and includes assessments to confirm understanding. In-person training offers additional benefits, such as hands-on demonstrations, scenario-based learning and opportunities for staff to ask questions during practical activities. Many organisations choose a blended approach to combine both methods, which strengthens overall competence. You can explore our full range of online courses on our Online Training Courses page
