Why you should choose in-person fire warden training

1) Why you should choose in-person fire warden training

A common question asked is – ‘why should I choose face-to-face fire warden training instead of virtual training for my staff?’ The answer to this question is that hands-on training in the workplace is a much more effective way of ensuring your staff are skilled enough to prevent and deal with a fire on your premises.

Here are 5 benefits of choosing in-person fire warden training:

2) Hands-on experience builds more confidence

How to use a fire extinguisher correctly to put out a fire is better explained through hands-on, practical demonstration. Being able to hold and set off an actual fire extinguisher to tackle a real blaze is an invaluable experience. It builds confidence and skills that can’t be developed by watching an online video.

Benfield Fire Safety’s fire warden training includes extinguishing a real fire using the correct extinguisher. With the use of a gas rig, their experienced trainers will enable your staff to feel the heat of a real flame in a fully controlled and safe environment. Following a detailed demonstration, your staff will then tackle the blaze under strict guidance using different fire extinguishers and a fire blanket.

This training is run outside in dry weather conditions but if the weather is not good on the day, there is the option to switch to a simulated fire exercise inside your premises using digital LED fire extinguishers, smoke goggles and other equipment to make the scenario as realistic as possible.

Knowing how to use a fire extinguisher and having the confidence to do so when needed, reduces the unnecessary risk in the event of an emergency.

3) In-person fire warden training tailored to your business

By delivering in-person fire warden training in your premises, we can tailor the learning to your particular business and workplace. Our trainers adapt their approach to the needs of the participants and the specific concerns or industry-related activities that require attention on your premises.

Benfield Fire Safety’s in-person fire warden training includes a walk round of the building/s to familiarise your staff with your fire assets the fire assets and their location such as the fire doors and fire extinguishers. As well as testing the fire alarm, investigating the fire panel, testing the emergency lighting, and rehearsing your emergency evacuation procedure.

This personalised approach offers better value for money than online training and it ensures your staff are better prepared in the event of an emergency in your premises.

4) Learn from experienced ex-fire officers.

All Benfield Fire Safety trainers are ex-fire personnel with more than 30 years’ experience of dealing with fire prevention and safety. In-person training with them gives your staff the opportunity to learn first-hand, ask questions, challenge, and receive immediate feedback. Your staff will also be encouraged to engage in discussions, share experiences and work together – making our training a dynamic and tailored learning environment that cannot be replicated online.

5) Team building

In-person fire warden training is a great way to get your team working together and developing the essential skills needed to help prevent fires and save lives. Collaborative working in the workplace is important but being able to do so in an emergency requires trust and very good communication skills. Online training is often undertaken in isolation whereas face-to-face practical training builds the team skills needed to work together in a fire situation.

6) Lifelong skills

Fire safety is a transferable skill that doesn’t just benefit employees in the workplace – it’s also relevant to home and everyday life. You never know when you’ll need to use a fire extinguisher and hands-on Fire safety training helps to build confidence and ability to remain calm during an emergency.

In summary:

Fire is a significant risk to your employees and business. Don’t leave it to chance or just do training to tick a box; make sure the training is the most helpful, realistic, and effective fire warden training it can possibly be – by choosing in-person fire warden training.
